In a competitive job market, recruitment is about more than just filling vacancies. Employer branding, a strong company culture and finding people who really fit the organization play a major role. Annemarie Slotboom (30) is a recruitment specialist at Schouten Zekerheid and has been responsible for the recruitment and selection of new employees since July. In this interview, she shares her experiences, challenges and what makes working at Schouten Zekerheid so special.
As a recruitment specialist, Annemarie deals with the entire recruitment process. "Everything to do with hiring new employees falls under my purview," she says. Together with her colleague Dinja, she supervises the process from screening resumes to job interviews and cooperation with managers and HR.
Before Annemarie got into recruitment, she worked at a recruitment agency and before that at an insurance company. "I noticed that purely insurance content was not quite my passion, but wanted to combine my insurance knowledge and recruitment experience. When this opportunity at Schouten Zekerheid came my way, I knew it was a perfect match."
Recruitment brings challenges, especially in a specialized sector such as insurance. "The market is tight and it is difficult to loosen people from their current positions. For example, for a particular position, there are only 275 suitable professionals in our field within a 50-kilometer radius. We have already approached them all once!" says Annemarie with a laugh.
In addition, competition plays a role. "With a handful of companies, we are all fishing in the same pond. Whereas you can't always compete in terms of employment conditions, we always distinguish ourselves in a nice working environment, development opportunities and a collegial atmosphere. Those are the elements that make people choose us and stay with us."
An important aspect of Annemarie's work is employer branding. "We are constantly working on labor market communication: how do we position ourselves as an employer and how can we improve our process? I find that an inspiring aspect of my work."
According to her,Schouten Zekerheid is distinguished primarily by its informal, accessible atmosphere. "We are not a hierarchical organization. The director walks in on an employee just as easily as vice versa. Everyone helps each other and you can always go to someone with a question. That makes it a pleasant place to work."
For potential new colleagues, Annemarie has a clear message: "Just do it! Working at Schouten Zekerheid means working in a committed organization where you are not a number. If you run into something, people think with you and look for solutions. It is a professional environment, but with the warm atmosphere of a family business." "Do you know someone who would be a good fit for Schouten Zekerheid? Especially let me know!" concludes Annemarie with a smile.
