Environmental damage does not only occur at companies that work with chemicals. As an association you can also cause environmental damage - and the costs for remediation can be considerable. You can also become a victim of environmental damage yourself. In both cases, environmental damage insurance is no luxury.

If your building is hit by fire, harmful substances may be released, such as asbestos. Or contaminated fire extinguishing water may end up in the soil. As an association, you may also have to deal with environmental damage caused by an incident in the immediate vicinity of the building. The costs for soil remediation, repair work, expert reports, preventive measures and possible liability claims can be enormous.

Many of these costs are not covered through the building insurance of the VvE. However, environmental damage insurance does cover the financial consequences of, for example, soil and water pollution and the costs of remediation.
