Most frequently asked questions about ANW gap insurance

I work part-time. So does this insurance add value?
Yes, definitely. After death, the family income for your partner and any children drops. Whether you work part-time or full-time makes no difference. The level of your income does not affect your right to a statutory ANW benefit. That depends on your partner's income. So this insurance offers valuable financial security even as a part-timer.
I will retire within two years. Is this arrangement still interesting then?
Yes, as long as your partner has not yet reached the state pension age, this insurance makes sense. This is because the benefit stops as soon as your partner receives AOW. Until then, ANW gap insurance is a valuable supplement.
I am reintegrating after illness. Can I participate in the scheme?
Yes, you can simply participate. You do not need to complete a medical examination or health statement, as long as you apply within three months of receiving information about the insurance from your employer.
I have a fixed-term employment contract, can I participate?
Yes, everyone employed by your employer can participate in this collective Anw gap insurance. The scheme only does not apply to employees on 0-hour contracts.
I have a 0-hour contract. Can I participate?
No, this collective arrangement does not apply to employees on 0-hour contracts.
I am pregnant. Can I participate in the insurance?
Yes, pregnancy is not a barrier to participation. Again, no medical examination or health certificate is required, as long as you apply within two months of receiving the information from your employer.
What if I am terminally ill?
If you are already terminally ill when you apply, the insurer will not pay out upon your death. This is stipulated in the so-called Van Leeuwen clause in the policy conditions.
Do I need to be medically examined?
No, a medical examination is not required. Nor do you have to fill out a health statement. As long as you register within two months of receiving the information from your employer, you are automatically insured through this collective scheme.
Can't I just get such insurance myself?
You can, but keep in mind that an individual policy is usually more expensive AND you will have to pass a medical examination or health certificate. Through this collective arrangement, you benefit from lower costs and easier admission, without a medical check.
What happens to the insurance if I leave employment?
Once you leave employment, ANW gap insurance stops automatically. You don't have to do anything for this. The payroll department reports your departure to the insurer, which notifies you in writing.
What does the works council think of this arrangement?
The Works Council has agreed to this collective ANW gap insurance and supports this solution as a supplement to the existing pension package.
Premium Payment
How long will my partner receive ANW gap insurance benefits?
The benefit starts on the first day of the month in which you die. Your partner will receive it until he or she receives AOW, or until no later than the month in which your partner turns 67. If your partner dies earlier, the benefit stops at that time.
Is the pension fund taken into account?
Yes. The survivor's pension from the pension fund takes into account a possible ANW benefit from the government. But: many people are no longer entitled to it. If your partner does not receive ANW benefit from the government, there may be a financial gap. The collective ANW gap insurance fills that gap.
What happens to the premium if my salary changes?
The amount of the premium is not linked to your salary, but to your age. So if your salary increases or decreases, the premium does not change.
How much is the premium?
You can easily calculate that yourself using the Calculate Premium page. The premium is age-related.
Is the premium tax deductible?
Yes, the premium is deducted from your gross salary. As a result, you effectively pay less, without having to declare it yourself on your tax return.
How is the premium paid?
The premium is automatically deducted from your gross salary. You don't have to do anything else for this. The tax benefits are processed immediately.
How much is the statutory ANW benefit?
You can find the current amounts on the page How high is the ANW benefit? These depend on your partner's income and are adjusted annually.
