"Even though our organization is growing, barriers remain low and all colleagues very approachable"

Mark is Functional Administrator at Schouten Zekerheid

Date 18-08-2025

Mark Trouwborst

I am Mark Trouwborst, married to Sietske, father of Fenna and working at Schouten Zekerheid for over 10 years. At the moment I am a functional administrator in the IT&T department, but have held various positions, including commercial employee. Having previously worked at another broker and small intermediary, I wanted to continue in pension advice and management. There was a vacancy for that at Schouten Zekerheid and that's how I ended up here.

With that move, I expected a more professional environment and that was indeed the case. The insurance industry in general is fun and dynamic. You are constantly dealing with changing market conditions, legislation that changes and clients who have different wishes. This ensures dynamism and that you can provide added value for (the payroll and HR departments of) our clients.

Together with my colleagues, I ensure that our back office and the systems connected to it work and are up to date. This is very fun and varied work. It is a combination of optimizing the set-up of the back office, participating in projects and solving problems of our colleagues. In this position, I am in contact with colleagues throughout the tower and provide essential IT support for our core business.

It's also cool to see that a lot happens "in-house. This allows you to interact with colleagues from all sorts of disciplines, such as marketers, developers, application managers and insurance specialists. Despite the fact that the organization is growing, the thresholds remain low and all colleagues are very approachable.

What makes Schouten Zekerheid a fine employer?

The atmosphere, the colleagues, the work, but if I have to pick out something: if the daycare center calls that my daughter is sick I can log off and go without any problems or comments. The hours will be fine at another time, but for now your family is the most important thing. I really appreciate that a lot.

Marieke van Rhoon on leadership with impact

Marieke van Rhoon (30) grew up in Maasdam, but soon exchanged the village for the city. "The Hoeksche Waard was just a bit too quiet for me," she says with a smile. She now enjoys living in the center of Rotterdam. "Central, lively, yet surprisingly calm – the perfect combination." Outside of work, she can be found on a terrace, preferably with a good glass of wine and a view of the water. "Enjoying life is also part of it."
